What is a public defender?

A public defender is an attorney who represents a person who is accused of a crime who cannot afford to hire an attorney. Pinal County currently has a public defender office that has a number of attorneys on staff. Pinal County also contracts with private attorneys to provide services to the accused who cannot afford to hire an attorney.
